UpCycled Mosaic Vase

UpCycled Mosaic Vase
UpCycled Mosaic Vase

I have made a few mosaic pieces before…some turned out…and…well others didn’t.  Just a side note if you are going to attach a mirror to a piece of wood and do mosaic work around it, any old adhesive won’t do.  You need mirror adhesive!!!  I found that out the hard way!  For this piece I used vintage tea cups and saucers.  I broke them up randomly and attached them to this glass vase.  I also used flat back glass circles.  They come in handy for so many things.  I really like the fact that I added them to this piece it gives it more of a bling effect!  Let me know what you think about it.  Also tell me about some DIY mosaic projects you have been working on!

Steampunk Jewelry

Here are a few pieces of Steampunk jewelry I have made. I have made other pieces …I need to find the pictures and I will add them later in this post! Let me know what your thoughts are. I’d love to hear from you, simply leave a comment in the section below. 2-17-2013 00110-30-2013 076 2-17-2013 017 1-16-2013 135 1-16-2013 103 12-09-2013 176 12-09-2013 034 12-09-2013 031 document.write(”);

Mixed Media: Upcycled 8-Track storage box

I made this little picnic wine box from an upcycled 8-track storage box. This is what it looked like before I began. I did remove the divider section from the inside.

I picked out lots of craft paper…Kindly donated to me from my sister at “Matties Attic”
She has way more craft supplies than I do…we trade back and forth. I love that she is into making crafts and things also!

So anyway back to the box. I cut a slit in the paper to go over the handle. I can trim away the excess with a SHARP ulility knife, after I get it in place. 11-28-2013 049

I used Modge Podge to attach the paper to the box.. I also have to trim around the hinges.

I used lots of coordinating paper to cover the box.

11-28-2013 051

I folded the edges of the paper to the inside of the box.11-28-2013 052

Okay….you can see it’s almost completely covered.
11-28-2013 053

I sealed the outside of the box with Modge Podge. I also proped the box open until it dried.

I also used Modge Podge on the inside to adhere my paper.

I found this awesome garden scene page from a magazine…..

And this saying—How perfect! As you can see here I tore pieces of paper to cover the inside of the box.11-28-2013 059

I used a large wall stencil ( that’s what I had on hand) to add some color and texture to the box. I simply dabbed on three shades, randomly.12-09-2013 030

I then added three dimensional butterflies and rub on ones. A few flat back beads in a circular pattern, a french letter stamp and stenciled on the word Paris.12-09-2013 032

I then made this adorable tag…Ha…the blank tag is also from my sisters craft supply stash! 12-09-2013 04012-09-2013 039

On to the inside….I added some paper flowers…I simply love these! Butterflies, ribbon, flat back beads and paint to finish off the inside.

My Etching Experiment

So I wanted to try my Skills at ETCHING. I ordered a bottle of “Pro-Etch” from Micro Mark, and followed the instructions on the bottle.398148_523663504340642_82172696_n
I wasn’t really sure what I was going to make, but I went right to it.
I chose a french letter stamp design…because…well that’s what I had on hand. I really need to get more stamps! I cleaned the metal and stamped on the design.

I cut the metal with Vintja metal shears. I attached my metal blanks (stamped side up) to packaging tape. I used 24 Gauge brass and copper. You may have to overlap the packing tape to make the strips wider. I also made sure the tape was long enough to attach to the side of the bowl, and that the pieces would rest in the solution with out touching the bottom of the bowl.
Waiting…checking… seemed to take forever…I like instant results…ha…that’s how I roll. Anyway…here they are…not bad for my first time! 398031_523663521007307_1180665604_n

I am going off of memory here…I think I rinsed them in a water and baking soda solution…and then pulled them off of the tape.

I think …I colored them with a black Sharpie…and used a polishing cloth to remove some of the marker…on one set but not the other.

The set on the left is polished…I don’t really like the look of them….they’re to shiny…But I fixed that later.

I them marked placement for the holes with a sharpie… and punched them out with a tool from Crafted Findings. The Long Reach Riveting System for 1/6″ semi-tublar rivets.

You can see the holes are NOT lined up perfectly, I need more practice. But you get the idea.

I then used the same AWESOME tool from Crafted Findings to add rivets.

SO…onto the next exciting step….MAKING BRACELETS!

You can see here I did something a bit different to each blank. I even soldered a little hand stamped piece to the blank. Using all of my new skills on these bracelets!
I even tried stitching with wire! Added a few cold connection, using Tim Holz gears.

So Here are the FINISHED products!

You can purchase this bracelet in my ETSY SHOP..

The bracelet on the yellow background is another one of these steam punk bracelets I made soon after the completion of the other two…just checking out my skills.
