Here’s a look at a cabinet I picked up at a garage sale. I decided I wanted to paint it…So I sanded it down and cleaned the dust away with a damp cloth.
I picked out a few colors of paint I had on hand and some craft paper.
I really like DecoArt Americana acrylic paints…I have been using them for years!!!
I got my brush damp and double loaded paint to give the cabinet an interesting distressed aged look. I followed the grain of the wood as I painted on the colors.
I also painted the inside, the handle and the hinges.
I then removed some of the paint around the edges, with sandpaper, to give it a worn look.
I then picked up a bit of the bittersweet chocolate paint on a damp cloth and worked it into the wood..leaving some areas darker.
I used a sharp razor blade to remove the excess paint from the glass.
I then buffed the cabinet with car polish. This left a very smooth protective coat.
Here are a few close up pictures.
I then cut some pieces of craft paper and modge podged them into the sections of the cabinet…I am so sorry I didn’t take pictures of the end result! I will make sure I do for the next time!
I’d love to hear your comments!
